Work & Play on ACK: Whitney’s Guide to Nantucket

Sep 5 2026

by Whitney Long

My husband and I spent some time on this magical island earlier this summer and naturally, we fell in love. We’ve already penciled in our days for next summer and are counting down the days!

While there, I attended Nantucket By Design, an annual celebration of art, design and history, hosted by, and benefitting, the Nantucket Historical Association. This is such a special multi-day event and it was especially meaningful to see several TSC alums and friends that were part of programming including Sarah Wetenhall, Margot Shaw, and Roxy Owens.

And y’all The Southern C world is so small! I ran into a handful of other TSC alums as we were walking along the cobbled streets. That was maybe my favorite part of the trip – the surprised squeals and hugs upon running into one another.

There’s so much to do and see and experience on ACK. We made some plans in advance along with a few dining reservations but we also left some margin and let the days unfold for discovery.

It was a week filled with delicious food, the beautiful beaches, exquisite sunsets, Jeep adventures and bike rides, incredible shopping, and the best people watching! (Speaking of shopping, my suitcase was full of TSC alum brands that I wore each day – love supporting our community wherever I go – see below list.)

If you plan to visit Nantucket, here are some of my suggestions for where to stay, eat, and what to do:
