At The Southern C, our demographics span the creative spectrum, from interior designers to product designers, from clothing store owners to bloggers, from PR companies to photographers.

We want to promote this mix by having members give us a lighthearted sneak peek at the tools they not only use in their trade, but in their lives as women who work.  #womenatwork #whatsinherbag

Recently, #tscsummit past presenter Stacy Smallwood opened up her bag of tricks (literally) and talked to us about the tools and products she uses every day as one of the South’s top fashion trendsetters and owner of Hampden Clothing and JAMES in Charleston, South Carolina.

ARE YOU AN EARLY RISER OR A NIGHT OWL?

I am definitely a night owl.  I think it is genetic because every woman in my family is the same way. HA

HOW DO YOU START YOUR DAY?

I read all of my emails and check instagram before I even leave my bed; sad but true.  I am actually surprisingly speedy getting ready and out the door in 30 minutes or less.  Then, next stop is of course is to Starbucks to get an iced grande non-fat latte with one sweet-n-low and then on to the store to see what the day holds.

HOW DO YOU END YOUR DAY?

I don’t cook so my husband and I usually go out to dinner to catch up and talk about our crazy days.  Our favorite spot is the bar at FIG.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE SOUTH?

Tradition!  The fashion industry is always changing and has me looking for the next trend or designer, but my Southern roots taught me the value of our family traditions.

MOST UNUSUAL ITEM(S) IN YOUR BAG?

I just looked to see and found…A European Outlet Converter and a wine cork of an amazing bottle of wine I just shared with a friend.

BEST BUDGET FIND YOU USE EVERYDAY?

My Stella & Dot Jewelry! My twin sis is a Senior Director with the company and keeps me adorned in their fun jewels.  Talk about a lot of bang for your buck?!  They truly are the perfect accent to every outfit.  www.stelladot.com/sallieholder

BIGGEST SPLURGE YOU USE EVERYDAY?

From the storeMy Marni handbag!  They are worth the investment and make a statement when you walk in the door.  Otherwise, my Hermes Watch I bought in Paris.  I wear it everyday and think about how long I wanted it and how excited I was to buy it for myself!

PRODUCT THAT SAVES YOU THE MOST TIME?

My iPhone 6 Plus …  I know it is huge but I love it!  I am on it 24/7 to send texts to clients of items I think they might like straight from a market appointment in Paris to reply to a press request from shop bazaar.com.

MOST VERSATILE WARDROBE STAPLE?

A Blazer.   A good blazer can finish any outfit and look cool with jeans and a tee or be worn over your shoulders to make a simple sheath look chic.

WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG?

stacys bag

A couple packets of sweet -n-low because I never know if I will be at a coffee shop and they won’t have any. My new Fendi sunglasses I got during London Fashion Week.  A mophie portable phone charger because my phone is always dying because I am on it so much.  It is a must when I am going all day to shows or market appointments because I take so many photos.  My Nars lipstick Pencil in Dragon Girl because it is the one beauty trick of feeling refreshed before heading to dinner with my husband.  Some bandaids in case my feet are killing because I wanted to be cute instead of sensible.  Headphones because it is my trick to “getting out of my head” and taking 10 minutes to recharge and listen to music.  A travel size of the Oribe dry texturizing spray to make my hair look fresh after a long day.  Finally, tic tacs.  Super old school but I got a huge container of them last time I was at the airport and now I am addicted.
