At The Southern C, our demographics span the creative spectrum, from interior designers to product designers, from clothing store owners to bloggers, from PR companies to photographers.

We want to promote this mix by having members give us a lighthearted sneak peek at the tools they not only use in their trade, but in their lives as women who work.  #womenatwork

JAMIE MEARES of FURBISH STUDIO

Recently, #tscsummit past attendee (x3) and presenter (x2) Jamie Meares opened up her bag of tricks (literally) and talked to us about the tools and products she uses every day as founder and creative director of the brick and mortar in Raleigh and e-commerce retailer Furbish Studio, interior designer and stylist plus blogger at isuwanee.com.

ARE YOU AN EARLY RISER OR A NIGHT OWL?

early riser these days.  i get up around 7:30.  but i still have some wild nights. 😉

HOW DO YOU START YOUR DAY?

i have breakfast every morning – either i cook huevos rancheros or a shrimp omelet, or a go out and have breakfast by myself – i have about three places on rotation i frequent (third place coffee shop, hereghty, joule).  i try to get at least an hour an a half of work done on my own before going to the office.

HOW DO YOU END YOUR DAY?

i read before i go to sleep, usually about 20 minutes.  or i watch scandal on my laptop.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE SOUTH?

its sense of humor.

MOST UNUSUAL ITEM(S) IN YOUR BAG?

i really do carry that many pouches.  i have a big bag, so i need to feel organized, and pouches help me control the clutter.

BEST BUDGET FIND YOU USE EVERYDAY?

my moleskin notebook.  i don’t go anywhere without it.

BIGGEST SPLURGE YOU USE EVERYDAY?

my bag, or my sunglasses.

PRODUCT THAT SAVES YOU THE MOST TIME?

my rapid iPhone charger – it charges twice as fast as a normal charger, and my dry shampoo saves me another day of not washing my hair.

MOST VERSATILE WARDROBE STAPLE?

i pretty much wear a uniform of a black shirt, ripped up jeans, and leather booties.  i carry tassel necklaces and other fun accessories i can grab from furbish to give it a little flair.

WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG?

guatemalan pouch – it holds lip glosses and beauty things

change for champagne pouch – credit cards and cash

prada sunglasses – i’ve lost them twice and replaced them b/c i love the shape

tresemme dry shampoo – the best for oily two-day roots

furbish stickers – i subtly stick places.

laptop – don’t leave home w/o it

rapid iPhone charger

tassel necklaces – adds some flair to my basic wardrobe

girlboss – currently reading, again

house beautiful colors for your home – helpful when i go see clients – they love to look through it and it helps me not get in the rut of going w/ the same colors all the time

evil eye pouch – holds some important meds for keeping it together

klonopin – keeps it together when things get real =)

tape measurer – decorator must

My favorite feature on Jamie’s blog, i suwanee, is The Real Raleigh where she takes us into the homes of cool peeps in her community.  It’s a treat to see fabulous photos of these folks with cool collections and interesting style.  Jamie’s q&a probes into the quirky side and makes for great reading.

I am shopping the amaaaaaazing art pop-up shop here as well as sharing some of my favorite gift ideas for the season from Furbish here (hmmmm, one for them, one for me) …
