On November 20, Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q will host fellow pitmasters, Griffin Bufkin and Harrison Sapp of St. Simons Island’s Southern Soul Barbeque for a Coastal South-inspired dinner. For $55, ‘cue lovers will enjoy a true taste of the South with everything from Fried Oyster Deviled Eggs to Spare Ribs, Pulled Pork and Chicken.
Long before there was Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q and Southern Soul Barbeque, Justin, Jonathan, Griffin and Harrison bonded over their similar background in and passion for smoking the finest quality meats. Both began chopping wood and slow-smoking meats around the same time and have since defined their respective forms of barbecue, from Texas-inspired to traditional Southern, both served with homemade sides and sauces. The so-called “barbecue brethren” have also overcome natural catastrophes and come out on top after much hard work and community support. In 2012, a massive fallen tree rendered Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q’s patio and much of the dining space unusable, but with community support, they were able to fire up the smokers only 48 hours later. Disaster struck Southern Soul Barbeque in 2010 when a massive fire broke out, completely destroying the old Georgia pine building, a historic gas station on St. Simons. With overwhelming support from the tightly-knit local community, they rebuilt to the exact footprint while selling hardwood-smoked barbecue from a food truck in the parking lot. Both the Fox brothers and Griffin and Harrison have attended and participated in events such as the St. Simons Food & Spirit Festival, Atlanta Food & Wine Festival and Big Apple Barbecue.
