Preserving our Southern heritage
Two passions that all Southern women have in common are family and history. Nothing epitomizes the South more than a huge, close-knit family that is very proud of their story and where they’ve come from. That being said, preserving the heritage of our belongings is a priority. We’ve brought together a few companies to help you do just that.
Hannah Bergen Heirlooms offers an easy, tasteful way to attach archival-quality tags to precious family heirlooms. Whether it be furniture, art or tableware, they provide a way to tag all of these objects and coordinate them to easily share memories with family and friends. This mother and daughter-owned company believes in the beauty of capturing the memory of each treasured item and provides a simple way to do so. Heirloom tags, stickers, jewelry bags, and more are for sale on their website.
What better way to capture your family history than to have it beautifully painted for you? J Daniel Portraiture & Fine Art are experts in the art of painting classic and timeless portraits, as well as unique and private commissioned fine art. Jean Daniel, who is Raleigh based and attended last year’s spring Summit, has been connecting families and corporate entities with portrait artists for 20 years, and has helped guide and develop and guide the careers of numerous artists. She has worked with multiple museums, and her broad experience has left her with an incredible eye for fine portraiture and collectible art.
Another company that prides themselves on preserving objects is The Laundress. They produce a line of eco-friendly detergent, fabric care, and home-cleaning products that help you take care of the things you love. The founders of The Laundress are Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd, two fashion-savvy innovators committed to making a long-term relationship with the clothes and items you love possible. Their products make maintaining the beauty family heirlooms easy, such as Gwen’s “grandmother’s collected beautiful hankies.” The Laundress offers a huge range of products, including 30 different types of specific fabric care, laundry bags, home cleaners, candles and many others.
Gwen and Lindsey will be presenting at this year’s spring Summit in Charleston, SC. The Summit is April 29-May 1 and tickets are available here.
