Mandy Rye

Mandy Kellogg Rye

Waiting On Martha’s founder and curator, Mandy Kellogg Rye, lives by one mantra, “Life should be lived beautifully every single day.” Drawn to the “finer things” at an early age, her mother taught her how to appreciate beauty while her father how to create beauty.

A Michigan native, Mandy left the mitten behind and headed to Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois where she graduated with dreams of becoming a high-powered attorney. However, her dream quickly fell short when she realized law school wasn’t all about wearing a designer suit and winning arguments with loads of whit and banter. Law school wasn’t a complete bust though; it introduced her to Chicago, her first big city and one she still holds dear to her heart. A city that unknowingly became the backdrop, and beginning of Waiting On Martha.

A bracelet actually started it all. Well a bracelet, an obsession with food, an incessant need to throw a party whenever an opportunity presented itself, and an adoration for all things DIY. But back to the bracelet. One fateful day Mandy ventured into a Chicago bead store while a class was in session. Thinking that jewelry making would be a fun hobby, she began taking classes. To be clear, Mandy had no plans of it becoming anything more than a hobby. You know what they say about best laid plans…in 2011 Mandy opened an Etsy shop and officially launched her Waiting On Martha bracelet collection in April. The response was, and still is, quite overwhelming. Individuals not only loved the bracelets, but they wanted to know more about Mandy and her life. Enter Waiting On Martha The Blog.

As the ultimate creative and personal outlet for Mandy, Waiting On Martha The Blog focused simply on creating a beautiful everyday through fashion, food, décor, and DIY. As the reader’s grew so did the oh-so common question “where do I get that?” And thus, as Mandy puts it, “It only took one reader’s question to push me to indulge my dream of opening a boutique.” Waiting On Martha The Shop opened as an e-commerce boutique in July of 2012 and opened a brick and mortar location in Atlanta in 2015 (where Mandy now resides with her husband and Cavalier King Charles Addison).

Kimberly Schlegel Whitman

Kimberly Schlegel Whitman

With a talent for making the ordinary extraordinary Kimberly Schlegel Whitman has taken her original and clever take on parties and created an entrepreneurial empire. While planning her own Idlewild Debutante Ball in Dallas, Texas, Kimberly found an undiscovered opportunity—a lack of quality goods for party rentals. In 1998, a quick thinking Kimberly launched her own event company, RSVP Soiree Luxury Event Rentals, and, after building up a wonderful business, sold it in 2006. She also took the century old RSVP Social Calendar online in 1999 and continues to maintain this comprehensive list of Dallas’ finest charitable events at www.RSVPcalendar.com. Kimberly’s success in this field led to the publication of six books on entertaining, countless television appearances, a daily radio segment on Dallas’ number one morning show and a spot as co-host of KTXD’s live daily television talk show, Texas Living. In 2011, she became the Editor-at-Large of Southern Living Magazine, the seventh-largest monthly paid consumer magazine in the nation.

Kimberly’s most recent book, Wedding Inspiration (Gibbs-Smith, $40.00) shares an intimate look at beautiful weddings with stylish flair. In the book, experts in the wedding and event planning industries share opinions and advice on some of the most important elements of a wedding- the invitations, gown, cake, venue, and more. This book provides an unforgettable collection of inspiration and ideas for planning the perfect wedding.

Kimberly’s book, The Party Planner: An Expert Organizing Guide for Entertaining (Gibbs-Smith, $24.99) organizes the process of planning and hosting a party, from the earliest inception to working with a budget, choosing a venue, hiring catering and musicians, creating a guest list and invitations, decorating, seating, stocking a bar, photography, entertainment, favors and attire– in essence, organizing every last detail for hosting a successful party for any occasion. The inspiring photographs and binder format are a great way to stay organized when making plans to entertain. Find more inspiration in “Kim’s Whims” which are scattered throughout the book. With this book, Kimberly holds your hand through creating a fun-filled soiree without stress.

Tablescapes: Setting the Table with Style (Gibbs-Smith, $39.95), is a book that brings focus to adding beauty to time spent with family and friends. This book brings Kimberly’s passion for setting the table to life with over thirty tablescapes that are meant to inspire. The book includes tips and hints on invitations, seating of guests, and up-to-date rules of etiquette. Whether you’re designing an intimate setting with a few close friends or a table for more than a hundred guests, Tablescapes includes a list of resources for finding the perfect items to create your table setting.

The project closest to Kimberly’s heart is The Wedding Workbook: A Time Saving Guide for the Busy Bride (Gibbs-Smith, $24.95). The Wedding Workbook offers every bride-to-be a tool for staying organized while planning her big day. The workbook is designed to hold contracts and other official documents, but it is also filled with beautiful places to fill out all of the information about the bride’s gown, wedding party, reception site décor, ceremony flowers and much more. It is a great keepsake that can be pulled out on a future anniversary to reminisce.

Kimberly’s passion for pets is evident in her entertaining book exclusively for dog lovers, Dog Parties: Entertaining Your Party Animal (Gibbs-Smith, $19.95). Dog Parties is the essential new party planning guide that offers entertaining ideas for throwing any posh pup a fabulous soiree. Ariane Goldman

After an eight-year career in business at American Express, Ariane founded her
first company, twobirds Bridesmaid, in 2006 in order to offer a one-size-fits-all
design that can be wrapped in over fifteen ways to flatter women of all shapes and sizes. twobirds is based on the needs of millions of women to invest in an important milestone for a loved one, while also buying a dress that can be worn after the wedding (thus, “killing two birds with one stone”). The business grew quickly due to market demand and has shops in Sydney, London, Toronto, Los Angeles and New York.

Newly pregnant in 2010, Ariane was similarly frustrated by the lack of stylish
clothing options in the maternity market, and realized a second void in
women’s apparel: she founded HATCH to provide a collection of chic and
effortless clothing solutions to invest in during pregnancy and to wear long
after the bump is gone. The HATCH collection has evolved to include
complete head-to-toe styling, as well as the blockbuster HATCH-to-Hospital
Box, the ‘basics’ HATCH layers bag, and a swimsuit collaboration with Marysia.
HATCH is adored by both pregnant and non-pregnant customers alike, and
has been featured in the pages of Vogue, Lucky, Martha Stewart Living, Glamour,
and Style.com. It is an editor and celeb favorite as well, and has been
championed by Marie Claire’s Zanna Roberts Rassi, Jane Keltner de Valle of
Teen Vogue, and on celebrities including Scarlett Johanssen, Rachel Bilson and
Reese Witherspoon, to name just a few.

Ariane’s commitment to giving women what they need during life’s most
challenging and important moments extends as well to her commitment to
Every Mother Counts, a charity founded by Christy Turlington Burns to ensure
maternal health for millions of women globally.

Jamie Darling

Jamie Darling is a sixth-generation resident of Jackson County, Arkansas, her family being one of the pioneer families of the area. Growing up in her family’s Drug store, she had dreams of going far away after school. After attending law school for over a year, Jamie decided that was not her path and returned home to Newport, Arkansas to regroup temporarily and started working on projects for family and their business interests. While in college, she and her mom really established their family’s drug store as destination shopping with some of the best sterling silver jewelry and unique gift and home decor items found anywhere. Since the internet was not prevalent, they were able to make a name for themselves and began building the brand early on. Over the years, they added to the pharmacy as they were a good team in making their inventory work. Eventually they outgrew the pharmacy and expanded. In 2005, a vacant house next door was razed and Darling’s Fine Things was born, adding accent furniture pieces and apparel. As her mother’s health began to deteriorate, Jamie took on the new venture full time.

Social media and the internet began to change the game of retail, and sales skyrocketed with Facebook. Jamie continues to do all social media and business plans for the pharmacy in addition to running Darling’s Fine Things.

Jamie is married to Scott Shumate, a rice farmer from Stuttgart, Arkansas with a yellow lab named Macks. She’s always been involved in various civic and community activities, currently serving on the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion Association. Preserving, protecting, and restoring the Mississippi Delta Region is a strong passion of hers that she’s dedicated her life to. In addition, she travels often and is a huge music fan.

Her communication skills, account management, and public relations savvy was further cemented during her time with a lifestyle PR agency, where she managed and maintained high-level accounts. After the birth of her first child, Lauren followed a zeal for the small business and launched LBH & Co. in 2013. With fifteen years of experience, Lauren understands the fundamentals of making a great impression on behalf of her clients.

2020 SUMMIT ADD-ON WORKSHOP

2-hour workshop on Wednesday, February 5 from 8:30-10:30 am. Only 100 tickets available; must purchase Summit ticket to attend.

How do your values align with your strategy and everyday decisions in your business? Over the years in the coaching/consulting business, Julie Weldon and Stacey Pierce of A Salty Rim have been asked this question many times. And many times, once they pulled back the covers, they discovered that people really do not understand the purpose of why creating values is so important to the health of an organization. In this workshop, Julie and Stacey are going to get very practical and tactical, with little “fluff.” So, get ready to put on your seatbelt, sharpen your pencil, and dive into both why you’re doing what you’re doing, and create an action plan for the exact next steps you need to take to drive your business to the next level. If you’re at a point where you’re stuck, have challenges you don’t know how to overcome, want to grow to the next level, or feel like you have cracks in the foundation of your business, this workshop might just be exactly what you need. This workshop is good for any industry and any business stage – just starting out or millions in revenue.

Ever feel like you leave a conference overwhelmed & unsure where to start? Learn how to never feel like that again. To close out the workshop, Sallie Holder will teach you exactly how to put your business’s values into action at the Summit to walk away with exactly what you need.
