DIY Hot Chocolate Drink Bar

Dec 10 2014

by Tamara Eckles

It’s that time of year where we all are craving hot drinks to keep us warm during these brisk Fall and Winter days. As Christmas and other holidays approach, parties and family gatherings are beginning. If you are looking for a good way to serve up hot chocolate this Winter for your family and guests I have a few tips on how to set up the perfect hot chocolate bar!

Hot Chocolate Bar

Tip 1:

Start with a great homemade hot chocolate and serve in carafes to keep it warm. Here’s my recipe for my favorite white hot chocolate .  Don’t have time to make your own? Splurge and buy a really good hot chocolate mix like Starbucks or Ghirardelli and add milk to make it really creamy.

Tip 2:

Great Toppings. Don’t just go for the ordinary with your toppings. Check out my list of over the top toppings like my homemade caramel sauce (recipe here) and if you really want to wow your folks go big and make your own homemade marshmallows! Check out my post later this week for a fun may to service up your marshmallows.

Other Toppings:

Crushed peppermint

Toffee Bits ( I love Heath toffee bits)

Chocolate Shavings ( use a good chocolate bar for this)

Homemade Whipped Cream ( keep chilled)

Homemade Caramel Drizzle ( see my recipe for caramel sauce above)

Homemade Vanilla Bean Marshmallows (recipe coming later this week!)

Tip 3:

Edible or Spicy Stirrers. These are fun and really festive! These stirrers also add color and the peppermint sticks are edible. Win!

Cinnamon Sticks

Peppermint sticks

Those are my tips to having a great hot chocolate bar this Winter. Enjoy!
