CHARLESTON, S.C. (June 5, 2014)DIG SOUTH, the Southeast’s Interactive Festival, will open the Silicon Harbor Welcome Center at 637 King Street on the Charleston peninsula on Monday, August 4. The Center will serve as a destination for visitors and residents seeking a go-to, one-stop place to find information about regional companies engaged in the technology and creative economy.

“DIG SOUTH is contacted daily by people looking for information about tech startups, established companies, jobs, capital and more,” says Stanfield Gray, founder of DIG SOUTH. “The Silicon Harbor Welcome Center will give them a convenient spot to drop in, have a conversation and find what they need.”

The Silicon Harbor Center will offer select brochures, promotional materials and job postings provided by technology, tech-related and creative companies. Lifestyle, leisure and other professional businesses that provide services to established and emerging tech companies are welcome to submit materials for consideration. Anyone interested in featuring materials at the Center should email info@digsouth.com for details.

The Silicon Harbor Center will be open Monday–Friday, 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. In the fall, the Center will also launch an online portal at siliconharborcenter.org featuring additional resources.

Since the founding of DIG SOUTH in 2012, Charleston has adopted the moniker “Silicon Harbor” due to the success of companies like Blackbaud, Benefitfocus, SPARC, PeopleMatter, Automated Trading Desk, BiblioLabs, BoomTown, Blue Acorn, Life Cycle Engineering and many more. Support organizations such as the Charleston Regional Development Alliance (CRDA), South Carolina Research Authority, Charleston Digital Corridor, Harbor Entrepreneurship Center and Charleston Metro Chamber Catalyst Center play an essential role in the growth of the information economy.

According to the CRDA, the region boasts a greater percentage of employment in IT-related businesses than Raleigh or Austin, and is the one of the top 10 fastest-growing software development regions in the U.S. The Silicon Harbor Welcome Center is the perfect complement to the regional startup ecosystem.
