Culture – Football Season in the South
Football season has officially begun and there is definitely excitement in the crisp fall air! With a couple of games under our belts, fans are finding out just what their favorite team is made of this season. Whether you are pulling for your local high school team, college alma mater, home state pride & joy or NFL favorite, pigskin pride is abundant.
This time of the year makes me think of what I refer to as the F’s of football – food, fashion, and fun! No wonder we look forward to this time of the year, right?
FASHION: As far as my three sons, Southern Proper comes to mind as the uniform for the Southern gentleman. If you have been to a college football game in the last decade, odds are you have seen this polished, preppy line being sported at campuses across the South and far beyond. Style, tradition and authenticity are the pillars that inspired the creation of Southern Proper. From double-digits up, these are the comfy and quality threads young men want to wear.
FOOD: Tailgate food has entered a whole new realm! Almost as intense and sometimes as competitive as the football game itself, it’s the pre-show in the parking lot. What used to be simply sandwiches, chips and dip, and some beers thrown in a cooler has now evolved into a full-blown production. Some of our favorite recipes come from TSC contributors and members:

FUN: While other conferences do tailgate, no one knows how to do it better than the fevered fans of the SEC! Whether you (or your team) don red and white, purple and yellow, maroon and white or whether you shout Roll Tide, War Eagle or sing Rocky Top at the top of your lungs, the common denominator is that we love to eat, entertain, and look good while socializing. Put these elements together and you have the formula for a fun tailgating experience.
Finally, to get you in the mood, listen to Lee Brice’s hit song, “Parking Lot Party” – he captures the spirit of a fall Saturday perfectly. Bet you will be singing this all day!
Goodness, I’m ready for Saturday! How about you?
