Leland Gal’s Guide to Leland, Michigan

Our Summit alums live in some pretty fantastic places across the South (and beyond!), from small towns to large cities. And how they choose to spend their free time in these places no doubt inspires their creative efforts. One alum for whom this is certainly true is Maggie Revel Mielczarek, owner of Leland Gal in Leland, Michigan. Maggie’s designs for Leland Gal are clearly rooted in her love of the Lake Michigan coastline and inspired by the time she spends here each summer. We can see why she loves it–take a look at the photos she shared with us, as well as some of her local favorites, in this mini guide to Leland, Michigan.

What is your favorite place to shop?

The shopping district of Fishtown Leland where Leland gal is located. It is so unique and special to people who have been coming to Leland for years or visit for the first time. Our little fishing village is the last working fishing village on The Great Lakes, and all of the little shops have their own unique flavor. Next door is a unique tile artist, Spörck Tile Art, as the infamous “Tug Stuff” where you can get apparel with Leland’s signature “Tug Boat” gear. A must for any visitor.

Where do you love to eat?

An old favorite has gotten a gorgeous modern facelift. The Riverside Inn. Stunning views, and fantastic food. When headed to the beach, we pick up the coveted Cheese Shop sandwiches on signature pretzel bread. They are also a neighbor in Fishtown.

What is your favorite cultural or outdoor activity?

I would say what is best for my soul. Time by the water with great friends and family.

Take a peek at Maggie’s online shop, Leland Gal, to see how all of this lakeside inspiration is translated into her designs + stay tuned on social media as she collaborates with two fellow Summit alums this summer:
