We have a Coterie Crush on Charleston native Sarah Hamlin Hastings of Sarah Hamlin Hastings Interiors.  After a few decades in NYC, she and her husband Matt moved back to her beloved Low Country to raise their children in the most charming city in the South.  Sarah Hamlin is active philanthropically with the Charleston Animal Society and she satisfies her love of art through Charleston’s vibrant art scene.  She shares some of her latest greatest and most favorites here …

FABRIC COLLECTION:

Kelly Wearstler for Groundworks, Schumacher’s Strie Velvets, and the new Embroidered Collection from Holland and Sherry—it is exquisite

CHINA PATTERN:

I like the classic simplicity of Herend’s Gold Band pattern. It is easy to mix it up with other patterns, or it makes a beautiful setting on its own. For everyday, I like to use my grandmothers Blue Willow.

PAINT COLOR:

Sherwin Williams “Black Fox” It is the perfect sexy dark gray.

DESIGN BLOG:

MFAMB, Stylebeat, and LaDolceVita are daily reads

CANDLE:

for the holidays, I still love the Thymes Frasier Fir candle, otherwise Diptyque’s Verveine is a favorite

ANTIQUE SHOP:

John Pope Antiques in Charleston, Peridot in Savannah, Malachite in New Orleans

DESIGNERS:

Melissa Rufty, Steven Gambrel, Darryl Carter and Amelia Handegan are designers that I look to often for inspiration. They are all have a very different aesthetic, but the level of quality and authenticity is always there.

ARTIST:

Since I consider architecture an art form, I would say Bobby McAlpine. His taste is exquisite, and his sense of scale and proportion is incredible. But on top of all of that, he is one of the kindest and most eloquent people I have ever met. A true Southern gentleman.

COLLECTION:

art—I love and appreciate all forms

SOUTHERN ESSENTIAL:

In no particular order: My Barbour coat, my great grandmother’s monogrammed silver goblets, my favorite flower, Camellia Japonica, my husband’s white dinner jacket, SEC football and boiled peanuts

Your style in five words:

Classic taste with modern sensibility (I cannot live in a museum—I have four little boys and two huge dogs!)
