Coterie Crush on Design Darling Courtney Barnes of Stylecourt
At the moment Courtney Barnes of Stylecourt…
LOVES (fabric collection):
It’s impossible for me to mention just one! RedTree studio is, for the moment, a less well-known company doing amazing repros of old Indian chintzes. In terms of made-in-the-U.S. fabrics, I’m impressed by Zak + Fox, Peter Fasano, and North Carolina-based Parlor Textiles.
LOVES (china pattern): Mottahedah’s Apple Lace inspired by Ch’ing Dynasty
LOVES (design blog): Magpie
LOVES (design magazine): The World of Interiors and Selvedge
LOVES (paint color): Benjamin Moore’s Victorian Garden
LOVES (candle): Cedar by The Laundress
LOVES (shop for antiques): Mandarin Antiques
LOVES (artist): Elliott Puckette
LOVES (interior designers): Schuyler Samperton
LOVES (to collect): antique textiles
LOVES (about the south): the landscape and gardens
Courtney can’t live without: my iPhone camera
Courtney’s secret to timeless design:
Let rooms evolve slowly over time, hopefully becoming more beautiful as you add new finds, fine tune colors and edit until the place reflects who you really are. But never feel pressure to ditch what you love because a magazine article says it’s outdated. And this probably goes without saying but if something is “trending,” think about treading lightly.
Courtney’s style in five words or less: Globe-trotting eye, Southern roots
Style Court began in May 2006 with a focus on decorative arts, textiles, books, art history and interior design. (Courtney Barnes’ B.A. is in art history and my masters is in education.) Past adventures include a five-year stint as a docent at the High Museum of Art. Courtney’s written work has appeared in Southern Accents, Enfilade, TradHome, Atlanta Intown and other publications. The blog’s title is a play on her name, Courtney Barnes, and the concept of “court” as a gathering place. Media attention has come from the editors of Time, Elle Decor, Domino, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, 1stdibs, Lonny, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Country Living, and Apartment Therapy L.A.
