CONVERSATIONS – The Love Between a Mother and Daughter

Just this past week, I have been fortunate to experience first-hand the power of social media, when used in a positive way, and it has been a beautiful thing! There is good and bad, of course, in this wild, wild West of online sharing but hopefully good wins most of the time. In the case of this amazing video, which is spreading around the globe like wildfire, love wins!
Backstory: Last week, Kelly (the daughter in the video) posted this precious clip on Facebook with her mom, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, and it began to get much love from her friends far and wide. It really is one of the sweetest moments between a mother and daughter and for her willingness to share it, we say thank you! ** Spoiler alert – what makes it even more incredible is that Kelly has an identical twin sister, Leigh, so it’s astounding their Mom knows the difference.
I couldn’t get it out of my mind (after watching it you will see why) and shared it on Facebook. Just from the kind and heartfelt comments there, from people that have no idea who Mrs. Daphne is, you could tell this had truly touched the hearts of many whose lives have been effected by this devastating disease. After asking Kelly for permission to have some PR and media connections (many of them friends from The Southern C Summit) share it, in addition to the many shares from her friends and friends of friends, the video has “gone viral” out of the gate! Think of it like dropping a pebble in a pond and the ripple effect becoming larger and larger.
With hundreds of thousands of shares, likes and encouraging comments on Facebook in just a couple of days (amazing that so many have opened up about their experiences with Alzheimer’s – it seems to be cathartic for share them), it is full steam ahead for this special moment captured on tape. After seeing the interest, Kelly shared it to You Tube where it has exploded. There are a crazy amount of views – over 1.5 million in just four days and growing by the second!
Additionally, the video has been mentioned and shared on websites and Facebook timelines such as The Huffington Post, People.com, Mashable, The San Francisco Globe, Daily Mail UK, FaithTap, The Today Show, Today Show- Australia, Reddit, Out To Eat With Kids, Alzheimer’s Association plus many, many others… wow! It’s wonderful to see the positive reach of social media and watching Mrs. Daphne spread her message of love around the globe!
Long story short, if you haven’t watched it yet, do so now in the above link. It will be the best minute and a half you will spend today (be sure to watch through until the end) and then go tell someone that you love them!
So touching! Neat to see things like this video going viral in social media and the phenomenal after effect of the guys doing the original ALS bucket challenge…good messages spreading so far and wide. Neat Whitney you were a big part of it.
