Compilation – Top 10 Fall Book Selections

by Whitney Long

We are a bunch of self-professed bibliophiles at The Southern Coterie… we love to read, collect and talk books. Conversation is often centered around who’s reading what with detailed reviews.

The hint of fall in the Southern air and with cooler temps and shorter days ahead, it’s almost time to grab a blanket, a glass of wine or cup of coffee and sit in front a crackling fire… good book in hand, of course!

To get you ready, here are some suggestions from my book bucket list this fall. I can’t wait to crack the binding on these titles:

Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story by Rick Bragg

My all time favorite author writing about Jerry Lee Lewis? Can’t get much better than that!

Gray Mountain by John Grisham

This had me by the author’s name alone. Love Mr. Grisham, his books never disappoint.

Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline

This suggestion came with a rave review from a friend I always trust.

Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good by Jan Karon

Excited for this new release. No one does small towns better than Jan Karon and her relatable characters.

I’ll Drink to That: A Life in Style, with a Twist by Betty Halbreich

A memoir from the Bergdorf’s personal shopper to the rich and famous for 40 years plus… this will be good.

Yes Please by Amy Poehler

She makes me laugh. That’s all I have but it’s enough.

Elvis and Ginger: Elvis Presley’s Fiancée and Last Love Finally Tells Her Story by Ginger Alden

A new book about Elvis? Yes, please. It’s been too long. And I know better than to judge a book by it’s cover but I do love the 70’s glam picture of Elvis and Ginger…

Good Dog: True Stories of Love, Loss, and Loyalty by the editors of Garden & Gun

A collection of the magazine’s memorable stories, as well as original pieces, by some of most notable dog owners in literature and journalism.

Hope: Entertainer of the Century by Richard Zogli

The definitive biography of one of the most important entertainers ever, Bob Hope will always make me think of my grandmother and the many movies and tv specials we watched together.

Don’t Give Up, Don’t Give In: Lessons from an Extraordinary Life by Louis Zamperini

Follow up from the incredible book (and movie) Unbroken, I can’t wait to read these never-before told tales that embody his simple, yet essential secrets of success.

*Some of the above titles will be released within the next month and all selections can be found on Amazon but don’t forget about the locally owned, independent bookshops in your area! These jewels are often the heart and soul of a town, city or community and we encourage you to support them.
