Charity: Zac Brown and Camp Southern Ground

As if we all needed another reason to love Zac Brown in addition to his music (www.zacbrownband.com), we now have one. It turns out that the talented singer-songwriter, musician, GRAMMY winner and Georgia native has a heart just as big as his voice.

What began as a dream for Brown when he was 14 years old has now turned into a passion project called Camp Southern Ground. Still in the development phase but very much moving forward, the camp will be located on a 500-acre piece of property donated by Brown set in the farmlands of Georgia forty minutes south of Atlanta in Fayette County. A foundation was created to build his “life’s work” and Brown humbly states, “There is nothing more worthwhile to me than helping kids. I’m very blessed to have what I have, and I know a lot of that’s on credit for what I do down the road. It’s very important for me to keep that in mind. I want to leave something behind that does some good after I’m gone.”

Camp Southern Ground will work with special needs children and their families while providing them with lodging and facilities to most effectively contribute to their rehabilitation along with a wide variety of therapeutic activities that are designed to help stimulate the mind and body and encourage development. It is the intention the camp will also soon become a state-of-the-art facility that practices cutting-edge programs to assist and rehabilitate children with neurobehavioral and learning difficulties such as ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette’s Syndrome, Asperger’s and Austism Spectrum Disorders. In addition, traditional camp activities will be offered such as canoeing, equestrian, hiking, swimming, ropes courses, arts and crafts and of course music.
