Amidst the merriment and mayhem, the beads and balls, the pageantry and parades, one question remains… where and how exactly did Mardi Gras begin?
There has long been friendly (and not so friendly debate) whether Mobile, AL, or New Orleans, LA, began the tradition. So, which celebration came first – Mobile or New Orleans? It all depends on who you ask!
Mobile and New Orleans both lay claim to being the “original”. Either way, the South is a winner because we love both of these charming cities and love a chance to share them with the world!
For the history of Mardi Gras in these southern cities, you’ll just have to read more and decide for yourself. You can’t go wrong with attending either one.
