Happy 4th of July y’all! Every summer the 4th somehow sneaks up on me and this year is no different. Even though summer officially gets underway in June, July 4th has always felt like the summer kickoff.

It’s looking like we might have a rainy July 4th in my neck of the woods, but that’s no reason to dampen our spirits!

We’ve got so much to celebrate…our nation is turning 237 this year, and that’s not too shabby if you ask me.

July 4th is a time for fireworks and backyard barbecues, but it’s about so much more than that. I’m afraid it’s not often enough that we really stop and take the time to be grateful for the opportunities we having living in such a great nation. Waking up each day with freedom to do what we wish, pursue our dreams, worship the way we choose and love those around us is a gift.

So many brave folks came before us and their dedication and sacrifice makes it possible for us to lead such wonderful lives.

I want to take some time today to let my heart be filled with gratitude for all the blessings I get to enjoy. And celebrating our nation’s birthday is a big part of that.

I’m honored and humbled by all of you! I just love being part of the Southern Coterie, with so many talented, creative folks who are passionate about the south, among a myriad of other things!

I hope you have a safe & happy July 4th! …and if that happens to include some cake, even better!
