I am excited to introduce you to a North Carolina talent.
Her works are often reflective of the beautiful North Carolina coast and landscapes. These abstract landscapes seem to work well in traditional as well as contemporary interiors.
I love the vibrant colors in contrast with the soft etherial light she creates as well.
This quote from my website explains my inspirations….. ..my contemporary abstract landscapes, influenced by the work of Diebenkorn, Sargent, and Sorolla among others, capture the fleeting moments of the sublime, the vast beauty of nature, which humbles us all.
What is your favorite piece?
Oh oh, impossible to choose a favorite piece! I do, on occasion hold back a few to keep for inspiration for future paintings. Currently, I am loving the most abstract ones, like these:
DRIFTING ON THE TIDE 36X36
BEYOND 36X48
SUNRISE OVER ATLANTIC 12X12
How has the your area influenced your work?
My time at the NC coast provide me with great inspiration. I love the vast spread of the marsh, sky, and ocean; the changing light quality, depending on the season is sensational. I am also inspired by time spent in the Caribbean – the clear intense hues of the water make for a very interesting palette.
What is your favorite restaurant in Chapel Hill?
Most recently, I have enjoyed Mercato Pizzaria in Carrboro. It opened recently by the Barker family of the former Magnolia Grill (Durham). Thin gourmet pizza, fabulous salads, and Karen Barker’s desserts are back!
Easy…it’s all about painting, golf and grandchildren!
And then there’s cooking and entertaining, and travel. Somehow, it seems to work out just fine. I refuse to “retire”!
Dream trip?
All expenses paid week of shopping and dining in Florence, Italy, retiring late in the day to a villa and garden in the hills overlooking the city!
Dream commission?
I prefer to have a client fall in love with a painting on site! But, a well referenced commission sometimes works too.
Your favorite host / hostess gift to give?
My favorite hostess gift is a bouquet of flowers from my spring and summer garden; in winter, my homemade granola is killer. In a pinch, a NEST “Bamboo” scented candle is well received.
I am enjoying seeing the work of the artists, (they have ‘emerged”), that are represented by the galleries Hidell Brooks and BluePrint Store, that represent me; especially Lori Glavin,
